(Level Two A (Pre-Intermediate) in Arabic Grammar)
Learn Arabic to understand the Holy Qur’an and the Noble Hadith
Aims
The course is aimed at complete Pre-Intermediate. It is designed over 1 semester to improve and enable students to communicate in Arabic Fus-hah within a limited range of everyday situations using the four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Arabic Fus-hah is the recognised means of formal spoken and written communication. Arabic Fus-hah is used in the Qur’an, traditional Islamic resources and also used throughout the Arabic speaking world on official occasions, in education and the media.
The course is taught in English and Arabic. There is a balance between communicative activities, structure practice, grammar and vocabulary. Class size is limited to 20 students to maximise interactive learning.
Content
Language purposes and functions
In level Two A (Pre-Intermediate stage), the Students will be able to realise the following functions by:
a) Building the specifications at Level One (Basic stage)

- Taking part in social situations, e.g. greeting / responding to greetings, expressing thanks and apologising
- Repairing communication (e.g. asking for repetition, checking meaning)

- Expressing preferences

In this level students will recognise and be able to make an attempt at producing the following grammar and linguistic structures, within the appropriate functional area as well as all grammar rules and linguistic listed at Level One (Basic stage). Pre-requisite
This course is aimed at students who have successfully completed Level One with SAIS or a suitable equivalent.
Materials
The first 14 lessons from the text book, ‘The Arabic Course of Madinah Islamic University for English Students, vol. 2’ by Professor V. Abd Al-Raheem, will be studied. This text book will be given to each of the students on his/her first Arabic lesson. Other texts will also be used throughout the course to aid learning. However, it will not be necessary to buy these books or for SAIS to provide different textbooks as photo copies and handouts will be given when different material is used by the teachers.
Assessment and Homework
Homework will be given every lesson in order to help students to be connected with the subject. Homework carries 48 % of the total mark. The homework will be based on particular exercises from the text book, as well as from the Qur’an, Surah Yousuf. There will be self-assessments during the course as well as at the end of the course. This carries 52 % based on the reading and writing skills.
SAIS also offers an optional official exam from OCR. As this is an external exam there will be an additional charge for those who would like to take this exam. Please consult the School admin for more details about the levels available and fees.

Vocabulary list
Students in this Level will learn and memorise about 200 vocabularies. These vocabularies are used in and takes account of the 17 different areas which were mentioned earlier. However, only students who are registered in the course will get this list.
